Beautiful Days Coloring Book Review

May 27, 2023 by Destinie Winn

Take a peak inside the newly released coloring book Beautiful Days by Ancient Faith Publishing showcasing “every day Orthodox living” which includes common scenes they might see in your home or in your community. “Beautiful Days” available from Ancient Faith Publishing? My kids have been so into it this week!

IMG_4952_jpg.jpg IMG_4950_jpg.jpg IMG_4963_jpg.jpg

Unlike the previous coloring books in this series which are specific to liturgical seasons, this coloring book is perfect year round. One feature I especially love is the pages are thick and perforated which makes for a clean tear when the time comes to remove their masterpiece! The illustrations are simple and yet familiar to your average Orthodox kids. The artist behind the drawings @abigail.holt.art did an amazing job cultivating a collection of every day scenes. My girls especially loved the icons that they recognized from our home! My oldest tells me all the time that she wants to be an iconographer when she grows up. So she especially loves the icon drawings of familiar saints!

Be sure to check it out, and stock up on the other coloring books in their series (which we also love) available in a bundle through Ancient Faith Publishing!

This coloring book is perfect for a beautiful day of coloring, or throw it in your church bag for a quiet activity for busy hands. We always have either a drawing pad or coloring book on hand in our church bag, and this week especially my girls have been reaching for their new coloring books first! Just be sure to keep a small stock of colored pencils or crayons in a “non-noisy” pencil holder in your bag as well!

Welcoming Families with Children in Church

Have you noticed an influx of families in your Orthodox parishes? Our parish is fortunate to be bursting at the seams with young families. As a priest wife, and mother of 4 myself, it is my hope that these families feel especially welcomed. The Church is for all people, and especially for our children. Christ himself gave us the command, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14. But how can we be welcoming and help accomodate families with small children?

I love Theology and all things Orthodox, but in this season of life I need simplicity. A little nugget to take and slowly digest. I try to carve out a few minutes a day to read, so sometimes I get one or two pages in. I also recently subscribed to Audible and I have enjoyed listening to books while doing chores, or nursing my little one - and I have found that I am actually able to “read” a lot more through that method. So I will share my booklist on Audible as well! Below you will find my current reading list and a brief commentary on my thoughts so far!

Do you have a notebook for taking down quotes from Holy Fathers in your reading? Do you always have a book of Holy Fathers that you are reading, and can turn to in a moment of gloom? Start now - this is essential.” - Fr Seraphim Rose.

There are a plethora of wonderful books on the market today for children to better understand our Orthodox Faith. Every year at Pascha, we gift our children a new book to add to our collection - usually surrounding the theme of the season. These are the ones we have read and loved! I’ve also added the age range that I think is appropriate to introduce it, but of course most of these books can be read aloud on the laps of mom and dad and would be perfectly suited for the whole family.

My oldest turned 7 this year, and up until this point we have been using a very simple book to help guide her through the Divine Liturgy. I was so pleased when I discovered Christ Amongst Us by Newrome Press. This book is both an easy to understand commentary on the Divine Liturgy according to the writings of the Holy Fathers and includes the text for the Divine Liturgy according to St John Chrysostom.

If you have a small child and you are looking for age appropriate Orthodox children’s books, then this is the list for you! The target age for these books is 0-3 years old, and I’ve broken it down based on age. As a homeschool mother of 3 (soon to be 4) young children, I know how important it is to have good books for my children. I’ve only included books that we have read, own and loved so you can be confident that these books are tried and true.

This blogpost was a collaboration with Ancient Faith Publishing. I shared my honest review above in exchange for free coloring books (shown above). As with everything I share on my platforms, I only work with publishers I love and endorse, I and carefully select which items to review. As a busy mom, and consumer of Orthodox materials myself, so I know how important it is to have good quality materials/resources available for my family. I hope you enjoy this coloring book as much as do! It would make for a great birthday or name day gift for any child!

+ May the Lord Bless you and your family always +

The Dormition Fast is the final fasting season in the Liturgical year. It is one of the four canonical fasting periods of the Orthodox Church year. The duration of the Dormition Fast is always August 1-14th, concluding on the Great Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos (August 15th). As we recognize this significant shift in our liturgical calendar, I wanted to provide resources and ideas in this guide to help guide you and your families. Returning to Simplicity: My Path to Orthodox Homesteading
April 27, 2026

I didn’t grow up imagining I would one day run a farm, formulate teas, or teach courses on traditional skills. I came from a fast-paced suburban lifestyle in the San Francisco Bay Area. My husband and I converted to Orthodox Christianity in 2020 from a Protestant upbringing that I’m still deeply grateful for. And as we began living the Orthodox way of life, I experienced a series of quiet but unmistakable shifts that answered questions I had carried for years.
